Building Connections and Shaping the Future of Care: HomeCareDirect at the Care Recruitment Event at the Brighton Job Centre

Highlights from the Day

The Brighton Job Fair was bustling with activity. Around 28 individuals came to hear more about opportunities within the care sector. While not everyone will be the right fit for the highly personal and sometimes demanding work that supporting our clients requires, there were definitely a few people who showed real potential.

Perhaps more importantly, the event gave us the opportunity to connect with other care providers and agencies. We were pleased to exchange details with organisations such as Compass, who were keen to collaborate and explore how they might refer potential employees to us. These kinds of connections strengthen the whole care network in Brighton and ensure that people seeking work have as many options and pathways as possible.

And of course, no event would be complete without a few light-hearted moments. Our branded tablecloth may not have fit quite as planned – but with a little improvisation and a lot of enthusiasm, our stand was still warm and welcoming! The Job Centre team even captured a group photo that summed up the energy and spirit of the day.

Looking Ahead: Returning in October

One of the best outcomes from the day was the invitation to return in October. The Job Centre team were genuinely impressed by what HomeCareDirect stands for and the clarity with which Dawn was able to explain our model of care.

Being invited back is a real testament to the positive impression made, and it gives us another opportunity to meet local people, raise awareness, and continue building a pipeline of passionate individuals who may one day become Personal Assistants with us.

HomeCareDirect - Job fairs like this are much more than a recruitment exercise

At HomeCareDirect, we believe that high-quality care is built on strong relationships, shared values, and trust. Every opportunity we have to share this message with the wider community is a chance to showcase what makes our approach unique. That’s why we were so proud to attend the Brighton Job Fair at the Job Centre for the second year running.

The event brought together job seekers, local employers, and care providers, all with one goal in mind: to create meaningful employment opportunities while strengthening the support available to people in Brighton and beyond.

Why Job Fairs Matter for Care Providers

Job fairs like this are much more than a recruitment exercise. They are a chance to open conversations, share knowledge, and highlight the rewarding career opportunities that exist within care. For many people, the idea of becoming a Personal Assistant in care is something new. Unlike traditional care roles, Personal Assistants employed through HomeCareDirect work directly with the one client and their families, building personal and long-term relationships that can transform lives.

Events like the Brighton Job Fair help us raise awareness of this unique model and demonstrate that care is not just a job – it’s a vocation that can be deeply fulfilling for the right person.

Dawn’s Role: Care, Commitment, and Connection

Representing HomeCareDirect on the day was Dawn, our Nurse covering the Brighton area. Dawn has years of experience supporting clients and their families, and she knows first-hand how vital it is to match the right Personal Assistant with each individual.

In her own words:

✨ “It’s all about finding the right personal assistant for each client. Building trust and long-term relationships is at the very heart of quality care.” – Dawn

Dawn’s passion for what we do really shone through at the event. Her presentation slides were praised by the Job Centre team as “brilliant – very informative and straight to the point.” But beyond the slides, it was her ability to connect with people that made the biggest impact.

Many of the attendees had never heard of HomeCareDirect before, and Dawn was able to explain not only what we do but also why our approach makes such a difference. By focusing on client choice, autonomy, and continuity of care, she highlighted how Personal Assistants can change lives – not just for clients, but for themselves too.

The Bigger Picture: Why These Events Are So Important

The reality is that recruitment in the care sector is challenging. Many people may not fully appreciate what the role involves, and some may not have the right skills or resilience to take it on. But by attending events like the Brighton Job Fair, we are not only looking for immediate candidates – we are planting seeds for the future.

Every conversation we have helps to break down misconceptions about care work. Every presentation helps people understand that being a Personal Assistant isn’t just about tasks – it’s about relationships, dignity, and empowerment. And every new connection with local agencies or partners builds a stronger foundation for collaborative working.

The more we engage with communities through events like this, the more likely we are to find the right people, individuals who don’t just want a job, but who want to make a difference.

Dawn’s Takeaway

Reflecting on the day, Dawn shared her honest thoughts:

Of the 28 attendees, only a small number may have potential for this work, but by continuing with these events we are confident we’ll connect with the right people.”
Every event builds awareness, and awareness is what will lead us to the right matches in the long run.”

Her words highlight the reality of care recruitment – it’s not about filling roles quickly, but about taking the time to find the right people for the right clients. That’s the only way to deliver the quality of care that HomeCareDirect is known for.

A Final Word

Our second year at the Brighton Job Fair has once again shown us the value of being present in the community, of having real conversations, and of showcasing what makes HomeCareDirect different.

We’re incredibly proud of Dawn for representing us with such warmth and professionalism, and we’re grateful to the Brighton Job Centre team for their support and invitation to return later this year.

At HomeCareDirect, we’ll continue to seek out opportunities like this to share our story, build connections, and, most importantly, find the right Personal Assistants who can deliver the kind of care that transforms lives.

“At HomeCareDirect, we believe quality care begins with the right match — empowering individuals, reassuring families, and ensuring professional, person-centred support every step of the way.”
