Environmental Sustainability & Carbon Reduction
Last updated: March 2026
HomeCare Direct Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions across all scopes by 2045, aligned with NHS Net Zero ambitions and the requirements of PPN 06/21.
Our Commitment to Net Zero
We recognise our responsibility to reduce the environmental impact of our operations. As a supplier to the NHS, we are committed to the NHS Carbon Footprint Plus target of net zero by 2045 and are taking measurable steps to reduce our emissions year on year.
Baseline Emissions
The following table sets out our baseline greenhouse gas emissions for the reporting period 2024–2025. This represents our first year of formal carbon reporting and will serve as the benchmark against which we measure future reductions.
Emissions Breakdown
| Emission Source | Tonnes CO₂e |
|---|---|
| Scope 1 — Direct emissions (company vehicles, gas) | 16.7 |
| Scope 2 — Indirect emissions (purchased electricity) | 6.3 |
| Total Baseline Emissions | 23.0 |
Key Emissions Sources
Our main sources of greenhouse gas emissions are:
- Staff travel to client locations for care delivery and assessments
- Office energy use including heating and electricity
- Business travel for training, meetings, and administrative purposes
- Digital infrastructure including cloud services and IT equipment
Reducing Our Environmental Impact
We are implementing the following measures to reduce our carbon footprint:
- Local recruitment — building care teams close to clients to minimise travel distances
- Remote working and virtual meetings — reducing unnecessary business travel
- Digital-first operations — minimising paper use through electronic care records and communications
- Energy efficiency — reviewing office energy consumption and exploring renewable energy options
- Sustainable procurement — considering environmental impact in our supply chain decisions
- Annual carbon reporting — tracking our progress and setting reduction targets
Future Targets
We are committed to setting science-based reduction targets and will publish updated emissions data annually. Our Carbon Reduction Plan will be reviewed and updated each year to reflect our progress and any changes in methodology or scope.
