Meet Sadie
A HomeCareDirect Client Taking the Reins at the Magpie Centre

A Dedicated Rider with Big Goals

From our first meeting, Sadie’s love for horses was unmistakable.
A lover of all things equestrian, her goal is to hone her riding ability and explore new challenges, with the support of HomeCareDirect (HCD) and the Magpie Centre’s expert team. Sadie brings grace, focus, and enthusiasm to every session. HCD is proud to offer unwavering in-person support, whether that’s transporting her to sessions, cheering on the sidelines, or helping her reflect on each ride.

At HomeCareDirect (HCD), we strive to support each of our clients in living rich, meaningful lives

Today, we’re delighted to introduce you to Sadie, a warm, determined, and vibrant horse‑rider who joined HCD around 2009
Follow Sadie’s adventures with HCD and the Magpie Centre, a Norfolk charity under the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA).
From galloping around the arena to fundraising via a fun run, Sadie is forging a brighter, more confident future, one hoofbeat at a time.

The Magpie Centre: Where Dreams Come True

The Magpie Centre, located in Runcton Holme, King’s Lynn, is part of the national Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA). This remarkable charity offers therapeutic riding, carriage‑driving, and equine-assisted learning to individuals of all ages and abilities.
Since opening its indoor school over 30 years ago, the Magpie Centre has welcomed riders—from those living with physical challenges to veterans and individuals with dementia—providing life‑enriching experiences that build strength, confidence, and independence

What makes the Magpie Centre so special is its unwavering reliance on volunteers and donations.
Operating costs top £200,000 annually, and every penny is raised through the generosity of local supporters, fundraisers, and dedicated helpers Magpie Centre RDA West Norfolk.

This ethos ensures riders like Sadie can access expert coaching, safe environments, and beautiful horses, all with zero charge for lessons.

Riding to Grow and Heal

Under the dedicated guidance of RDA-qualified instructors and devoted volunteers at the Magpie Centre, Sadie follows a structured training programme designed just for her.
Sessions take place in both the indoor school and open countryside, providing diverse challenges and exciting variety Magpie Centre RDA West Norfolk.

Riding at the Magpie isn’t just about technique. It’s packed with benefits:

  • Physical Gains: Improved balance, posture, co‑ordination, flexibility, and muscle tone.
  • Emotional Boost: Riding builds confidence, concentration, motivation, and trust.
  • Social Connection: Sadie trains among volunteers, other riders, and carers, fostering valuable friendships.

Supported by the Magpie Centre’s carefully managed environment, Sadie feels safe to push herself.
With each trot and canter, she reclaims independence and experiences a new sense of freedom.

A Fun Run to Help Horses and Riders

Earlier this year, Sadie took part in a fun run in King’s Lynn, raising money for the Magpie Centre and the wider RDA.
With support from her HCD team and friends, she completed the event smiling, proud to support the horses and coaches she loves.

The funds she raised will go towards essentials like feed, farrier care and stable upkeep

Sadie’s goal is to walk the fun run under her own steam.
We plan to be there to support and cheer her along the way
